Frequently Asked Questions

What size should I print for an 11oz sublimation mug?

The recommended design area for a standard 11oz mug is 8.2" wide x 3.7" tall. Print on 8.5" x 11" paper or use a precut 3.5" x 9" sheet for less waste. Always mirror your design before printing so it transfers correctly onto the mug.

What size should I print for a 15oz sublimation mug?

For a 15oz large mug the recommended design area is 9.5" wide x 4.5" tall. Use 8.5" x 11" paper or a precut 4" x 9.5" sheet. The larger design area means 8.5" x 11" is the minimum paper size — 11" x 17" gives you more room to work with.

What paper size do I need for sublimation mugs?

Most standard 11oz and 15oz mugs print on 8.5" x 11" paper. Larger mugs like the 17oz latte, 20oz tumbler, and travel mugs may benefit from 11" x 17" paper depending on your design size. The size chart covers the recommended paper size for all 7 mug types included in this guide.

Why does my sublimation design look reversed before pressing?

That is completely normal — sublimation designs must be printed mirrored so that when transferred onto the mug the image reads correctly. Always flip your design horizontally in your design software before sending to print. Forgetting to mirror is the most common beginner mistake in sublimation mug printing.

How do I stop my sublimation design from ghosting or blurring?

Ghosting is almost always caused by the paper moving during or after pressing. Secure your design firmly with heat-resistant tape on all edges before pressing — especially around the curves of the mug. Do not move the mug immediately after pressing. Let it cool slightly before peeling the paper.

What is the design area for a 20oz sublimation tumbler?

The recommended design area for a 20oz tumbler is 9.3" wide x 8.3" tall. Use 8.5" x 11" or 11" x 17" paper depending on your design. Because of the taller wrap height tumblers benefit from 11" x 17" paper to avoid seams in the design.

Does this guide cover latte mugs?

Yes — both 12oz and 17oz latte mugs are included. Latte mugs are tapered which means the design area narrows toward the base. The 12oz latte design area is 9" x 4.25" and the 17oz latte is 9.75" x 6". Both are marked as tapered in the chart so you know to account for the curve when positioning your design.
